Discover the unknowable, strange, beautiful, and surprising diamond in the rough that is North-Eastern Estonia. This tour is a look at a completely different side of Estonian life, one you will not regret getting a glimpse of.

Join us for a 12-hour day trip down the North-Eastern coast of Estonia. Our knowledgeable local guides take a small group, up to 8 people, for a fun filled day all the way to the Russian border and back. On the way we’ll roam around the ruins of Toolse fortress right next to the seaside. You’ll see the industrial landscapes of Estonia with oil shale mines and manmade ash hills at Kohtla-Järve along with some classic Soviet architecture from the heyday of the mining. Go from working mines to abandoned ghost towns like Viivikonna and see what happens when life moves on but houses are left behind.

We’ll visit Sillamäe, a city that in Soviet time was so secret that it did not officially even exist. Sillamäe is known for its unique ensemble of Stalinist architecture and some quirky local museums. Most importantly you’ll also discover Narva, the third biggest city in Estonia. In Narva we’ll stop by old Krenholm Manufacturing Company buildings to appreciate the scale of industry in czars time. We’ll look across the Narva river at Russia and visit the Narva castle towering over the border.

On the tour we’ll stop for lunch at Kohtla-Järve or if you prefer, to buy snacks for the road. Kindly let our guides know if you have any special dietary needs that we should take in account. Location of the lunch is subject to availability and the meal is not included in the price of the tour.

"Without Kert you might loose so many places and stories!"

Kert is a wonderful guide with enormous knowledge, who is individually setting places to see, he listens to guest’s interests. He is also a good driver and protective host- everyone is feeling safe during the trip. He’s English is excellent. Highly reccomand!

"Amazing Eastern Estonia / Narva Tour"

Sten was amazing on our private tour. He is so full of knowledge and provided an in-depth history of Estonia and the roles Germany and the Soviet Union and Russia played along the way to Narva. Even in winter, the tour was well worth it.

" worthwhile historical and scenic tour"

Wonderful guide extremely competent ( a history professor!), and a tour bringing some nice touristic sights, but most of its interest comes from the way it makes you understand the reality of Estonia. today, between Baltic states common history and Russian influence

"Amazing tour with an amazing guide"

What an interesting day in Eastern Estonia visiting the part of Estonia, we had never been before. 12 hour tour was really worth experiencing: oil shales, secret city, ghost town etc. Our guide Sten was awesome, we were impressed by his knowledge and enthusiasm. We highly recommend this tour, and you'll be so lucky, if it is guided by Sten.

"Sten was the best guide one could hope for! "

I absolutely loved it, the whole tour was quite striking and breathtaking. I got some amazing photos out of it too and the tour guide was incredible! Thank you :)

"Nice guide nice tour"

Both beauty in architecture and some 'sadness' in environmental destruction to experience.
