Jaan-Kristjan Senior Tour Guide

Jaan-Kristjan (also known as JK) is highly energetic and enthusiastic; he sometimes doesn’t even know himself where he gets his energy from. You can watch him leap from place to place as he tells you all about the twists and turns of the Estonian history or shares his insight about life in Estonia. He has a hard earned degree in history and is also an avid homebrewer who dreams of one day starting his own brewery in Estonia. If you let him he’ll happily tell you about the Estonian craft beer revolution and the different beers you should try or bars you should visit while you’re here (you can also ask about wine but he’ll tell you beer is better).

Jaan-Kristjan is from the second biggest and the most awesome town in Estonia – Tartu. During his spare time you can find him in Tartu either crouching over a cauldron or more likely a kettle frantically brewing a new batch of beer to share with his friends, reading a history book (or any book, really) in his backyard. When he is not in Tartu – as usually tends to be the case –he could be anywhere in the world because he loves travelling.

"Thorough, informative and friendly"

I booked this tour so that t could experience a bit more of Estonia outside of Tallinn. We were driven to the park and saw some beautiful examples of nature. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable and she made everyone welcome. I would certainly recommend this experience.

"Jaan was great ... I'd change some of the itinerary"

Overall, a good experience. Jaan was a good guide ... friendly, knowledgeable, excellent English. I would change up some of the itinerary. In particular, I'd skip the bobsled facility in Sigulda (especially in the summer, when there really isn't much to see) and spend more time on the Sietiniezis trail and in Cesis and Vijandi. LIked the lunch stop; in Valga, I would recommend spending less time inside the military museum and allowing time to wander outside among the military vehicles.

"Learned so much about the Baltic history, culture, and customs."

The tour with Jaan-Kristjan from Riga to Talinn was the best part of our Baltic vacation. Jaan was outgoing, polite, and knowledgeable as a historian-in-training, with a great sense of humor. We not only saw the beautiful countryside of both Latvia and Estonia on the way, but also learned so much about the Baltic history, culture, and customs. Thanks Jaan for the memorable experience and we hope to see you again when we go back to Estonia in the future!

"Book your cruise shore tour with them"

Our family of 6 wanted a tour where we could walk the old city and also see other sights like the summer palace. In addition, we had special dietary needs. John (getting his Master's in History) was such an amazing host. He met us off the ship and both drove and walked us around. He brought us to a great restaurant for a gluten free lunch. He was so knowledgeable and friendly. Don't hesitate to book your cruise shore tour with them. Much better than what is offered on the ship.

"If you like getting some physical activity while learning, take this tour"

The Laheema National Park tour was amazing! Highlights included going behind Estonia's tallest waterfall, and swimming in a bog lake. Our guide, Jon, was fantastic! He was knowledgable, funny, and thoughtful. If you like getting some physical activity while learning, you should definitely take this tour.
